PS5 stock: we will have to wait at least until the second part of 2021

As expected, the PS5 shortage will continue in 2021. While Sony is reassuring for the second half of the year, it’s not guaranteed that you can easily get your hands on a copy in 2021.

As you’ve probably noticed, the Sony PlayStation 5 – along with the Xbox Series X and S – has been nearly impossible to buy since its launch on November 19, 2020. Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, a officially mentioned this subject during an interview.

A SHORTAGE THAT WILL LAST IN 2021

During an exchange with the Washington Post and the Financial Times, the boss of PlayStation returned to the last months since the launch of the PS5: “ The demand was higher than expected, which explains the current stock problems. This high demand coupled with the complexity of the supply chain issues that we are currently experiencing, has resulted in a supply that is slightly less than what we initially anticipated ”.

According to the boss of PlayStation, things will improve month after month in 2021. It will nevertheless be necessary to wait until the second half of 2021 to reach remarkable figures. Sony isn’t promising that you’ll be able to get a console easily this year, though. With very high demand for PS5, combined with the global semiconductor shortage and the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic is forcing the sale of consoles in bot-infested online stores, Sony therefore still faces serious constraints.

Still, Sony has released some encouraging figures for the lucky ones who were able to buy a PS5. According to Jim Ryan, 1 in 4 PS5 owners did not own a PlayStation 4 console, and half of all PS5 owners are new to PSN. The PS5 therefore attracts new users to believe Sony.
